About this Guide
Farming Roots
Most of us do not have to go far back in our families to find agricultural traditions. Many people worldwide are still in agriculture, feeding the rest of us. Sometime the cultural impact of this is difficult to discern until you move to another region. Although I was raised in Chicago, the corn fields right outside of the suburbs were often in the news. Corn-on-the-cob was at every summer celebration, and corn husk dolls and arrangements at every autumn festival. Moving to the Willamette Valley with different seasonal foods and traditions reminded me that we are never far from our agricultural roots.
