About this Guide
Collecting Life
One of the repeated messages in this guide is that it takes great care to manage living things. It is hard enough to maintain a single organism, an entire habitat is a lifetime endeavor. But another message is the amazing amount you can learn while trying to keep organisms alive and flourishing. It is a privilege and joy to be a small part of a quail surviving until the next year or a tree growing another foot in height. Much of life may be out of our control, but it is worth collecting the small moments we can.

Behind-the-Scenes
Make your own hummingbird food, it is cheaper than prepared food and lacks unnecessary dyes.
Hummingbirds eat insects too. This is a way to “manage” the fruit flies that keep appearing on rotting fruit.
