Predation Objectives

Locating & Critiquing

Outline a strategy for locating science information from a variety of resources; distinguish between skepticism and denial; and explain why critiquing information is an important aspect of science and list ways to constructively critique.

Predators & Prey

Summarize predator and prey relationships by analyzing data sets, and explain how oversimplification can mistakenly exclude important variables; describe relationships between banana slugs, garter snakes, and rough-skinned newts; and create a model that shows the impacts of predator and prey populations on each other.

Tactics & Weapons

Describe tactics predators use to capture prey and provide examples of animal species that utilize these tactics; identify the physical structures animals use to capture and immobilize prey and provide examples of animals that utilize these structures; and describe the genetics, evolution, predatory and prey response behaviors of wild and domesticated cats.

Body Forms

Describe the basic body forms found in animals, including example species; discuss how these body forms can relate to animal survival; and analyze skull structures to determine likely functional role of animals in their habitats.
