Technology Objectives

Photography & Video

Describe different ways photographs are used in science and apply photographic principles to capture information about organisms and their environment; describe the climate and soils of desert ecosystems, including the significance of microhabitats; and provide examples of succulent plants, including where they store water and the leaf modifications of cacti species.

Tracking & Satellite

Provide benefits and examples of tracking technologies used to study organisms; explain what an ecoregion is and how it may sometimes be more beneficial to study ecoregions than larger ecosystems; and describe characteristics and organisms of the Sahara, Syrian, and North American deserts.

Magnification

Describe the magnification possible with hand lenses and microscopes; explain why light sources and stains are important in microscopy; and provide a historical example of how microscopes changed the way people viewed the world.

Microscopic Life

Revisit Domains and Kingdoms, and relate them to microscopic organisms; describe the roles of the mycosymbiont and photosymbionts in lichens; and identify three different growth forms of lichens.
