Organism Care Objectives

Basic Needs

Provide examples of how limited resources and continual threats can impact organisms; describe why organism care may need to be altered over time; and develop an organism care plan that includes the basic tenants of animal care, including limited resources and continual threats.

Tidal Zones

Describe the risks to organisms in the tidal zone; explain how (and why) life survives in tidal zones; and provide examples of keystone species in the tidal zone and near shore environments.

Coral Reef

List the characteristics of coral animals; describe the relationship between corals and zooxanthellae; and explain the process of “coral bleaching.”

Marine Invertebrates

For six of the marine invertebrate phyla (Porifera, Cnidaria, Echinodermata, Mollusca, Annelida, Crustacea); describe the key characteristics of the phylum; and list examples of organisms in the phylum.
