9p1 Fish Synthesis

Fish Synthesis Objective

Produce an original media piece that brings together multiple concepts about fish.

It can be helpful to go back to previous webpages to recall the vertebrate evolutionary story as well as basic fish characteristics.

Assignment (due Sunday on Canvas)

Fish are also discussed throughout this week’s Fitness Guide as well as on the Migration webpage:

Fish Synthesis

We encounter fish repeatedly throughout our lifetime and accumulate many pieces of information.  This media piece is an organization of some of the key biological components of the fish story.  You are welcome to integrate into this story other personal experiences with fish, for example: fishing experiences, a pet fish or aquarium set-up, favorite fish recipes, an art piece, childhood toys, etc.
9p1 Fish Synthesis
Include in your fish synthesis media piece:
  1. A brief summary of the evolutionary story of fish, including (A) the era when they appear in the fossil record; (B) how they are similar to other vertebrates; and (C) how they differ from amphibians.
  2. The distinction between, and examples of: agnathans, cartilaginous fish, and bony fish.
  3. A labeled image (photo or sketch) of basic fish structures.
  4. An example of a genetically modified fish, including a description of the modification that was made.
  5. A description of the life cycle of anadromous salmon, including (A) the species you are describing, (B) the various life stages, (C) where these life stages can be found (habitat), and (D) potential threats to the different salmon life stages.
  6. Observations and inferences of fish behaviors including (A) what the fish is doing and (B) whether you feel this is an innate or learned behavior with the rationale for your decision.

Media Directions

Submitted to Canvas.
