Include in your piece:

  • How trees can be identified from a distance by shape, including an example.
  • How trees can be identified by twigs in the winter, including an example.
  • The structure and function of bark, including how it can be used for identification and also damaged by parasites.
  • The difference between heartwood and sapwood in a tree stem, including their locations and functions.
  • What earlywood and latewood indicate in a cross-section of a tree stem.
  • Examples of hardwood and softwood trees, including products made from each type of wood.
