About this Guide

Science Adventures

We are living in historic times, and one of the many challenges is finding a way to safely have science adventures while protecting the health of our families and community.  Luckily with our online world, we have libraries of knowledge at our fingertips, web cams on organisms and habitats, and instant communication with fellow explorers.  I hope to meet you in the field some day!

More Bees

With declines in local bee populations, beekeepers are often called in to establish and maintain hives.  Mark is assisting in checking and cleaning a hive in New York.
Amateur, or hobby, beekeeping has a long history and is gaining popularity as bee declines are in the news.  Our local nursery has as much area dedicated to beekeeping supplies as garden tools.
Children’s books and posters provide about as much information as most of us will need to understand and appreciate bees.

Behind-the-Scenes

Seed Dreams

Everyone seems to be gardening!  Not only is is a possible source of nutritional and less expensive food, it can also connect us with the natural world.  If you have access to a plot of land or a sunny window, order your seeds early; they keep selling out!

Jiffy Pots

With gardening, sometimes the simplest pleasures are the best.  If you have never added water to dry peat pots and watched them swell, this year is the year to try it!
Along with gardening, many people are heading to trails for a bit of exercise and to reconnect with nature.  Although many plans are currently on hold and budgets are tight, adventures in nature close to home can be rewarding.
